After 2 days of walking at Trewethett Farm Camping and Caravan Site we decided on a day off was in order and we decided on a trip to Bude in the car. A 30 mins trip and you are in Bude’s main car park located close to Summerleaze beach.

Summerleaze Beach is perhaps one of Bude’s main attractions for sand, surf and sun, and it’s the first port of call for the summer visitor. The beach offers level access and a flat viewing area making it suitable for the disabled.

The Beach is clean, and safe so is a big hit with families and surfers alike. However, it is the sheer variety of activities that mark Summerleaze as arguably the best beach in Cornwall for outdoor pursuits and water sports. Surf lessons, as well as other water sports such as kayaking, climbing or coasteering all offering professional tuition make this a popular family resort.

We had a holiday in Bude 18 years ago at that time the town looked tired. We had rented a cottage out of town and walked each day into Bude on the Canal tow-path with our one-year-old daughter in her pushchair. Bude now appears to be undergoing rejuvenation, money has been spent and the open-air lido restored together with new beach huts.  New restaurants and tea rooms have opened if you like seafood (Evening menu). Life’s a Beach above the beach is well worth a visit. The Cornish Cafe has recently opened and has fantastic coffee and pastries.

The Castle also has a gallery and tea room with views over the beach and is available for weddings and function hire.

Bude has 2 good supermarkets (Sainsbury’s and Morrison’s) larger than many in the area so a good place to stock up on essentials. Parking on Burn View Road alongside the golf course is free before 1st May so we avoided the obligatory £4.

The Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club is a typical links course of over 6000 yards and with Visitors welcome means that Mom can have a game while Dad watches the kids on the beach.

There is a good walk along the clifftop to Crockets Beach and beyond to Northcott Mouth;
