Located on the banks of the River Avon 2 miles from the centre of City, Bath Marina Caravan site is a well-run site of 88 pitches. Each pitch has a 16 amp supply, mostly hardstanding they provide plenty of room for the largest motor homes and caravans. (Note RV’s must phone prior to the visit and not book online) The site is just a few minutes’ walk to the Lansdown Park and Ride scheme. This service runs 15 mins into the centre of Bath and is great value for money. The return price for 2 people of £5.20 (July 2017) makes for easy access to Baths’ main attractions.
The site is extremely popular and booking is recommended. Although we had pre-booked our details could not be found on the system. (Do you sometimes get that sinking feeling) As the site was full it did not seem a promising start to our three-night break. However, the staff were apologetic and could not have been more helpful in resolving the matter. The site was able to provide a suitable pitch only charging us half price for the three nights, so overall a good result.
The site is very clean and they have 2 good shower blocks one of which has been recently installed. The new block is a prefabricated building but provides clean and modern showers and copious hot water. There are the usual chemical disposal points, plenty of water taps and grey waste disposal close to most of the pitches. It makes for a site you would consider returning, a bonus of free wifi is available on site.
The site also has electric bicycles to hire on site as part of baths Next bike hire scheme, These can be booked via an app on any smartphone If you are not confident on a 2 wheels and prefer to walk you can access the river and canal path directly from the site and take a walk into bath in 50mins.
The only downside of the site is lack of security barriers at the entrance to the site. Although we did not experience any issues with security it was a concern. So make sure your van is secure and make friends with your neighbours so that they will report suspicious activity if you are out. The site does allow late arrivals and there are no issues manoeuvring onto your pitch. All pitches are well spaced, mostly hardstanding with plenty of room for car and awning.
The BoatHouse Pub is a riverside pub within 2 min stroll from the site just a short walk along the riverside path. The pub garden provides alfresco dining with superb views of the river. The Boathouse serves quality dishes, with ingredients and products sourced from local suppliers. The menus are a mixture of contemporary dishes and timeless classics at an acceptable price.
Would we stay again? Lack of barrier was a concern, could not fault the location or the facilities and with easy access to Bath in most respects it is an ideal site, we may consider the Caravan Club site next time just to see how it compares.
